SAN JOSE BPO

Commercial property owners in San Jose are required, by the Energy and Water Building Performance Ordinance (PBO), to benchmark their buildings. Benchmarking must be completed every year, through the EPA’s Energy Star Portfolio Platform. All San Jose commercial buildings over 50,000 square feet must comply with the Energy and Water Building Performance Ordinance. Benchmarking for BPO is due every year on May 1. Starting May 1, 2020 all buildings over 20,000 square feet must comply.

BPO BENCHMARKING (EVERY YEAR)

All commercial buildings over 50,000 square feet must have an Energy Star score through the EPA’s Portfolio Manager Platform. Your building’s Energy Star score is a product of your building’s characteristics and energy usage. QuEST has benchmarked over a 600 buildings using Energy Star. If your building already has an Energy Star score QuEST can prepare your BPO update for $450. QuEST will collect your utility data, update Portfolio Manager and file the BPO report with the City of San Jose. To complete your BPO Benchmarking simply send an email to SJ-BPO@quest-world.com

BPO ENERGY AUDIT (EVERY 5 YEARS)

The City of San Jose is developing a key performance standards by which buildings will be measured. Buildings that fail to meet this standard will have to perform and energy and/or water audit covering the areas of deficiency. The building performance assessments will be performed on a 5-year cycle.

Many times the energy savings recommendations resulting from the audit can be financially attractive and when combined with PG&E’s Zero-Interest Financing Program, they can literally pay for themselves. To get more information BPO Energy Audits please send an email to SJ-BPO@quest-world.com
